Can online debates really change people's minds, or do they just make us more stubborn? In this episode of 700 Days to Live, we explore the art of listening, persuasion and respectful engagement in the digital era. Online debates often descend into arguments, but what if we approached them differently? Instead of chasing 'victory', what if we valued curiosity, nuance, and understanding?
In this episode, I discuss:
why online debates rarely flip opinions overnight
the difference between adopting new beliefs and modifying existing ones.
how respectful listening can reduce hostility and foster intellectual humility.
why the goal of online debate should be growth, not triumph.
If you’ve ever wondered whether digital discussions can make us better listeners, more thoughtful allies and more open-minded citizens, this talk is for you! Can a small but growing online community really make a difference in today’s chaotic world? Or are we simply playing music on the deck of the Titanic? After more than 12 years of leading communities, I’ve seen first-hand how even a group of 400 people can create real change—first in the lives of individuals, then at the community level, and maybe even beyond. In this video, I explore:
Why small communities matter in an age of loneliness and online toxicity
The power of safe spaces and genuine dialogue in building trust and learning
How movements for change have always started with a few thoughtful, committed people
Why being a ‘global pessimist, local optimist’ can still spark hope in dark times
This isn’t about easy answers or loud voices—it’s about listening, curiosity, and growing together. If you’ve ever wondered whether your voice in a small group can matter, this conversation is for you.

How do you deal with criticism in today’s age of social media and constant noise? In this Daily Spark, I share the final meditation on my Personal Manifestos – guiding principles that help me navigate life, translation, and creativity. We live in an age of keyboard warriors, where standing out often means becoming a target. Whether you’re a translator facing industry upheaval, an artist daring to be different, or simply someone carving out your own path, criticism will always follow. But how we respond to it determines whether we move forward or stay stuck. In this video, I explore: • Why criticism is universal and timeless • What not to do when facing online trolls • How to rise above negativity without losing focus • Why every insult can actually be proof of progress If you’ve ever struggled with negativity online, or wondered how to protect your energy while still pursuing your goals, this reflection is for you.

We are Verbs not Nouns, and the Most Important Verb of All is “Becoming.”
We are not fixed nouns; we are living verbs, constantly shifting and changing. This video explores the idea that identity is a continuous process of growth, transformation and reinvention, rather than something static. From career changes to spiritual growth, and from personal convictions to cultural shifts, we are all in motion. Through sharing my own story of moving between different roles in languages, teaching, writing, activism and creativity, I demonstrate how each stage was part of an ongoing journey. Instead of regretting our past selves, we should celebrate them as milestones on our journey to becoming who we are today — and who we are still becoming.
If you’ve ever cringed when looking back at your past, or felt guilty for changing your mind or direction, this reflection is for you. It's an invitation to embrace fluidity, to view identity as a verb and to face change with courage rather than fear.

Many of the patterns we live by are automatic — habits formed long ago that we repeat without question. But what would happen if we stepped back, reflected, and turned those habits into intentional choices? Humans think between 60,000 and 80,000 thoughts a day. Most of these thoughts run on autopilot, which keeps us efficient but can also trap us in loops. Reflection gives us the freedom to pause, notice and choose differently. Whether you’re a teacher, a leader, or simply someone on a journey of self-discovery, this reflection shows that change is possible at any age. By identifying habits in the moment and exercising choice, we transform not just our behaviours, but our minds too.

Have you ever felt that there’s more than one of you inside, clamouring to be heard, sometimes shouting over each other. Or is that just me? That’s what this conversation is all about.
In today's episode, I explore the idea that we all contain multitudes: different selves, shifting moods and layered identities that cannot be reduced to just one label. Taking inspiration from Walt Whitman’s famous words, “Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself. I am large. I contain multitudes,” we’ll explore how embracing our inner contradictions is not a weakness, but the essence of life itself.
If you’ve ever struggled with your identity or sense of purpose, or felt that you are 'too many things at once', this episode is for you. Why every life carries a story, and how curiosity brings it to light? Inside every human being lives a story waiting to be told. Some are spoken, some are written, some are painted, and many remain unspoken—but all shape who we are. Are you really living if you’re not changing every day? In this episode, I explore why embracing change is vital for personal growth, resilience and a more fulfilling life.
We often reserve the phrase 'It changed my life' for major, dramatic events, but genuine transformation can occur every day. In this personal manifesto, I explain why I believe that if something doesn’t change your life on a daily basis, you’re not truly living. Drawing on ancient wisdom, such as that of the Greek god Proteus, as well as modern psychology, this video takes a deep dive into adaptability and resilience, and explains why change is not something to fear, but to embrace.
Chapters:Why change is inevitable (and why resisting it is harmful). The powerful symbolism of Proteus and adaptabilityHow to overcome the fear of the unknown and societal judgementWhy small daily changes are as important as big transformationsHow embracing change can lead to growth, opportunity and self-discovery.
Life is never static. The question isn’t whether you will change, but whether you will do so by choice or by force. Watch this video to learn how to make change your greatest ally.

Is social media the beauty that connects us, or the beast that divides us? Here’s an honest take after 12 years online.
Is social media the beauty that connects us, or the beast that divides us? In this video, I share my honest experience of using social media every day for over 12 years. I explore everything from the joy of reconnecting with old friends and building global communities to the darker sides of envy culture, trolling and political echo chambers.
What impact has social media really had on our lives? Has it helped us to grow or has it trapped us in an endless cycle of scrolling? I reflect on the nostalgia of the pre-social media era, when we bought CDs, wrote letters and met face-to-face, comparing it to today's algorithm-driven world.
